Mary Stuart, her body wrecked by crippling arthritis, lives a painful and lonely condition in a Mississippi nursing home. She has no family and is running out of financial resources. Tired of living in constant pain and knowing that she will soon be transferred to a State-run nursing home, Mary has decided to take her own life through Physician Assisted Suicide. This story chronicles the last day of her life and the efforts that those who care for will go to in order to stop her. Mary comes to a better understanding of her place in this world but is it enough to stop her?
