Plimpton is a Professor Emeritus from the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Russel Sage College, a Master of Education degree from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from The Ohio State University. She is the great-niece of the Harding Sisters.
