The Indian Government over the years has executed and implemented several Rural Employment generation programmes viz. National Rural Employment Programme (NREP) in 1980, Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Programme (RLEGP) in 1983, Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY) in the last year of 7th Five Year Plan, Employment Assurance Scheme (EAS) in 1993, Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana (JGSY) in 1999, Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) in 2001, National Food for Work Programme (NFFWP) 2004, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(MGNREGA) in 2005 which is known as National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), etc. MGNREGA implemented Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) which is an envisaged template modification from all precedent Wage Employment Programmes (WEP) operating in the country since 1980. With this locale the authors attempted to study MGNREGA and MGNREGS as source of employment to rural people, its impact on the lives and creation of assets in rural areas. The data collected from the beneficiaries has been documented by the authors with the title ¿MGNREGA- A Source of Employment Generation in Rural Areas¿- A Study.
